1-5. Department of Ship Surveyor.
a. The Surveyor assigned to a Contractor's plant or working area will be responsible for Government inspection,
operations, reports, records and personnel of his activity assigned to the same or other contractor work sites within the
area of assignment, relating to contracts assigned to him within the plant or work area. He will insure compliance with
the principles and policies set forth in this procedure, and with current procedures and rules prescribed in applicable in-
spection manuals, related publications, regulations and directives.
(1)  The Ship Surveyor assigned as Surveyor at a Contractor's plant or work site will be the sole point of
contact with the Contractor by the Inspection Team on contract interpretation and related inspection policies.
(2)  Surveyors must be familiar with all clauses and conditions of the Master Contract for Repair and Altera-
tions of Vessels.
(3)  Surveyors will be responsible for becoming familiar with working methods and material requirements
designated within the specifications by Federal or Military Specifications, or trade name references.
(4)  In the event a question arises as to whether material furnished by the Contractor meets referenced
specifications, the Contractor will be requested to furnish a certificate, prepared by the manufacturer, that the product
meets or equals cited specifications.
(5)  Surveyors will not recognize sub-contractors as an Agent of the prime Contractor. Deficient or improper
workmanship or materials supplied or performed by a sub-contractor will be reported immediately to the prime Contrac-
tor, who shall be held responsible for correcting deficiencies.
(6)  Surveyors shall be held responsible for preparing tentative field orders when necessary to increase de-
crease or alter the
