c.  The machinery shall be examined under working conditions. The log can be examined to ascertain suc-
cessful operation.
d. Where considered necessary, the compressor cylinder heads can be opened and the valves and cylinders
examined. The crankcase inspection plates can be opened for a general examination.
Certain types of refrigeration equipment release toxic or lethal fumes when the system seal is
broken.
e. If so equipped, the refrigerated space alarm shall be tested for operation.
2-60.  Modification Work Orders. During the scope of vessel survey, the surveyor should observe and be assured
that the equipment is modified to the configuration of current Modification Work Orders that are applicable to the vessel
being surveyed, "Unauthorized modifications will be noted in the Marine Condition Survey." These MWO's are listed in
DA PAM 310-7.
SECTION XIII. Electrical Inspection

Inspection of Electrical Systems.
a. The electrical inspections should insure that the arrangement, materials and installation fully comply with the
vessel's drawings and authorized modifications.
b. Electrical cable. Electrical cable should be examined for size and type as far as practicable without undue
disturbance of fixtures.
(1) The adequacy of cable supports shall be examined and it shall be ascertained that no cable is in the
proximity of hot objects and that the cables are not damaged due to sharp bends or sharp or rough edges of cable sup-
ports or bulkhead penetrations, or similar abrasions.
(2) Cable penetrations required to be watertight shall be examined for proper packing of the terminal or
stuffing tubes, including future take up of gland nuts.
(3) All equipment and circuits shall be inspected for possible development of physical changes or deteriora-
tion. The insulation resistance shall be further examined and either restored to normal condition or renewed.
2-62.  Generators. Generators shall be inspected for general condition and tested both electrically and mechanically
and for voltage regulation, parallel operation, operation of safety devices such as reverse current or reverse power trips,
switches and circuit breakers, similar devices.
