FUEL INJECTORS.
a.
Operate engines and check for proper operation of fuel injectors. Missing,
rough running, or lack of power may indicate a defective injector or injectors.
Replace suspected defected fuel injectors.
b.
Sometimes defective injectors can be detected by feeling for vibration in the
fuel injector feed lines. All lines should feel the same. If a definite difference
can be detected between two lines, the one with more pronounced vibration
can indicate a defective injector.
VALVE LIFTERS.
15
NOTE
Perform steps a and b for MK1 or MK2 with Sabre
engine. Perform step c for MK2 with Cummins engine.
a.
Operate engines and listen for proper operation and adjustment of valve
lifters. A clattering, clicking, or knocking sound from under valve cover is an
indication that valves required adjustment. A rough running engine may be
an indication that valve lifters are too tight.
b.
Adjust valve clearances as follows:
(1) Turn engine over until valve to be adjusted is fully closed and its cam lobe
is to the bottom of its stroke.
(2) If engine is hot, use a 0.018-inch (0.45 mm) feeler gauge. With engine cold,
place a ).019-inch (0.48 mm) feeler gauge between rocker arm and valve
stem. Loosen locknut and turn adjusting screw clockwise to decrease valve
lash or counterclockwise to increase valve lash. Proper adjustment is when
feeler gauge has a slight drag when moved between valve stem and tip of
rocker arm.
c.
Refer to engine valve tapped adjustment procedure, and adjust valve
clearances on both engines.
