REMARKS
INSPECT (Cont)
g. Check the top of the block (cylinder head contact
surfaces) for flatness with an accurate straight
edge and a feeler gage.
(1) The top surface of the block must not vary more
than .003 inch transversely and not over .007
inch longitudinally. It will be difficult to
prevent water, oil, and compression leaks if the
top surface of the block exceeds these tolerances.
(2) If it is necessary to machine these surfaces to
correct for the above conditions, do not remove
more than .008 inch of metal. Stamp the amount
of stock removed on the face of the block. The
distance from the centerline of the crankshaft
to the top of the cylinder head surface of the
block must not be less than 16.176 inches.
