Speed Too Low - Troubleshooting.
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Cranking speed too low.
Step 1.
Check that hydrostarter system fluid is not too heavy.
Check the fluid in the system. Use Hydraulic Fluid MIL-L-17672 type 2135
TH.
Step 2.
Check that engine oil is not too heavy.
Replace the oil with the proper viscosity grade.

Step 3.
Check for control valve that is not fully open.
Check the travel of the control valve located on the side of the starter.
Minimum travel is 1-1/16 inch (2.699 cm). Remove any obstruction that
prevents sufficient control valve or control lever handle travel.
