e. The figure below illustrates carburetor action at the time when the engine is operating at slow speed.
Note that the butterfly shutter is closed to permit very little air to enter except air passing the slow speed
bleeder jet. Since the ultimate speed of the engine is dependent on the volume of fuel vapor entering the
crankcase, further opening of the butterfly shutter admits more air to be mixed with the liquid fuel, thus
developing a greater crankcase charge, and more engine speed and power.
