Internal leaks (Cont).
Step 2.
Check oil cooler core for leaking.
Inspect the engine coolant for lubricating oil contamination; if contaminated, replace the oil
cooler core. Then use a good grade of cooling system cleaner to remove the oil from the
cooling system. Refer to paragraph 3-17.
3.
Oil control at cylinder.
Step 1.
Check for oil control rings that are worn, broken or improperly installed.
Replace the oil control rings.
Refer to paragraph 3-40.
Step 2.
Check piston pin retainer for looseness.
Replace the piston pin retainer and defective parts.
Refer to paragraph 3-40.
Step 3.
Check for scored liners, pistons or oil rings.
Remove and replace the defective parts.
Refer to paragraph 3-40.
Step 4.
Check piston and rod alignment.
Check the crankshaft thrust washers for wear. Replace worn and defective parts. Refer to
paragraph 3-40.
Step 5.
Check for excessive oil in crankcase.
Fill the crankcase to the proper level only.
