Hydrostarter - Cranking Speed Too Low Troubleshooting.
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
Cranking speed to low.
Step 1.
Check that hydrostarter system fluid is not too heavy.
Check the fluid in the system. Use Hydraulic Fluid MIL-L-17672 type 2135 TH.
Step 2.
Check that engine oil is not too heavy.
Replace the oil with the proper viscosity grade.

Step 3.
Check for control valve that is not fully open.
Valve body sticking in valve housing.
Replace valve cage and valve
assembly.
Step 4.
Check for inlet line restricted.
Check plumbing from accumulator to hydrostarter to insure hoses are not
collapsed and are free of obstructions.
Step 5.
Check for excessive internal leakage in hydrostarter.
Examine around hydrostarter for broken thrust bearing plate, scored port plate,
frozen piston or broken cylinder spring.
