Troubleshooting.
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
Loss of fluid from reservoir.
Step 1.
Check for external leaks.
With pressure in the system, check all hoses and fittings for leaks. Tighten the
fittings. Refer to Direct Support Maintenance.
Step 2.
Check for leaking hydrostarter shaft seal.
Remove hydrostarter inspection cover and look for signs of hydraulic oil on the
Bendix drive, the Hydrostarter shaft and inside the pinion gear housing. Refer to
Direct Support Maintenance.
Step 3.
Check for leaking engine pump shaft seal.
Refer to Direct Support Maintenance.
Step 4.
Check for leaking hand pump seal.
Remove plunger gland and replace inner and outer O-rings.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
Loss of fluid pressure when engine is not running.
Step 1.
Check for ambient temperature decrease.
A drop in temperature will decrease the nitrogen pressure. Adjust the pressure as
needed for cranking requirements by use of the hand pump.
