Fails to Discharge Fluid Troubleshooting (Cont).
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
Hand pump fails to discharge fluid (Cont).
Step 2.
Check for leaking check valves.
Hand pump handle will not stay in neutral position but will move to one end of the stroke.
If caused by dirt, open the relief valve and operate the hand pump slowly for a few
minutes to wash the particles out of the check valves. If this is unsuccessful, stone and
clean the ball seats in the pump body and replace the balls and springs if necessary.
Refer to paragraph 3-179.
Step 3.
Check for plugged reservoir screen.
Remove and clean the reservoir screen, flush the reservoir tank and reassemble. Refer
to paragraph 3-180.
Step 4.
Check for low fluid level.
See table 3-68 step 2.
Step 5.
Check for air in system.
To purge the hand pump of air:
a.
Relieve any system pressure, then disconnect the outlet hose from the hand
pump.
b.
Close the manual relief valve and operate stroking in both directions.
c.
Reconnect the outlet hose.
Step 6.
Check for dirt in pump.
See step 2.
Step 7.
Check for damaged piston seal rings.
Replace the seal rings. Refer to paragraph 3-179.
