a. Install the upper
bearing shell (4) (the
one without the contin-
uous oil groove) in the
connecting rod. Be sure
the tang on the bearing
shell fits in the groove
in the connecting rod.
b. Wipe crankshaft journal
clean and lubricate with
clean engine oil.

Pull connecting rod and
piston assembly down
until the upper bearing
seats firmly on the
crankshaft journal.
d. Assemble bearing cap (2)
