e. Remove lower housing shell
(5) from bearing cap (3).

Remove pipe plug (6), if
necessary.
3. Main Bearing
a. Remove bolts (7), and lock-

washers (8).
b. Insert two bolts in bearing
cap (9), leaving bottom of
head accessible. Pry cap off.
c.
Remove upper main bearing
shell (10) by tapping on
edge of bearing with a
small, curved rod, revolving
the crankshaft at the same
time to roll the bearing
shell out.
d. Remove upper thrust washers
(11) by pushing on end of
washers with a small rod.
Force washers around and out.
