12. Roller Bearing
a. If the roller bearing cones
Cones
(46) were removed from the
clutch drive shaft (6)
install them as follows:
(1)
Lubricate the inside
diameter of the roller
bearing cone with
engine oil. Then start
the bearing cone
straight on the drive
shaft with the wide
face of the race
facing the shoulder
on the drive shaft.
(2)
Place a steel ring
approximately 1/4"
thick over the end of
the shaft and rest it
on the inner race of
the bearing cone.
CAUTION
The steel ring must bear against the inner race of the bearing cone. Do not allow any pressure to
be applied against the roller bearing cage or the bearing cone will be damaged.
(3)
Support the clutch drive
shaft, bearing cone and
steel ring on the bed of
an arbor press with the
split plates under the
steel ring. Then, press
the drive shaft straight
into the bearing cone
until the inner race is
tight against the shoulder
on the shaft.
