(a)
With the "A" valve set mark aligned with the pointer on the gear cover and both valves closed on
cylinder No. 5, loosen the crosshead adjusting screw locknuts (1, FIGURE 2-44) on the intake and the
exhaust valve crossheads for cylinder No. 5.
NOTE
The same procedure is used to adjust the intake and exhaust crossheads.
(b)
Turn the adjusting screw (2) out at least one turn.
(c)
Hold the crosshead down against its mating valve stems.
(d)
Turn the adjusting screw (3) in until it touches the top of the valve stem (5), but do not raise the
crosshead (3).
(e)
Hold the adjusting screw (3) in this position. The adjusting screw (3) must not turn when the locknut (1)
is tightened to its torque value. Tighten the locknut (1) to 25 ft-lb with adapter, 30 ft-lb without adapter.
(f)
Adjust the intake and the exhaust valves on No. 5 cylinder before rotating accessory drive to the next
valve set mark.
