REMOVAL
a. Rotate the crankshaft to position two connecting rods at bottom dead center (BDC) (FIGURE 3-73) .
b. Loosen, but do not remove, the connecting rod capscrews (5, FIGURE 3-74) .
c. Use a rubber hammer to hit the connecting rod capscrews (5) to loosen the cap (6) from the dowel (4)
in the connecting rod (7).
d. Check to see if the connecting rod (7) and the cap ('6) have matching numbers stamped on them and
that they are in the correct cylinder location.
e. Remove the connecting rod capscrews (5) and cap (6).
f. Remove the lower rod bearings (3).
g. Mark the cylinder number and the letter "L" in the flat surface of the bearing tang.
h. Push the rod away from the crankshaft, until piston rings are outside cylinder.
i. Remove the piston and rod assembly.
