CAUTION
The lubricating oil system must be primed before operating the engine after any
internal engine repairs to avoid internal component damage. Do not prime the
system from the bypass filter; the filter will be damaged.
r. Remove the pipe plug from the lubricating oil pump cover.
s. Install the priming pump oil supply hose. Use clean engine lubricating oil out of a bucket or container.
Supply oil to the crossover oil passage.
t. Allow the oil to flow until the oil pressure gauge indicates a maximum pressure of 30 psi (210 kPa) to
prime the lubricating oil system. Remove the priming pump hose and replace the pipe plug.
u. Fill the oil pan (PMCS Table 2-1, Item 12).
v. Run the engine (TM 55-1905-223-10) until it reaches a temperature of 180 (80 ) and check for
