INSPECT
a. Visually inspect the entire steering system for leaks, contamination, deterioration, or broken parts.
Include the reservoirs, pumpsets, valve blocks, helm pump, cylinders and associated hoses, piping,
fittings, and fasteners.
b. Oil check.
(1) Check that hydraulic oil is clear and free of water or other contamination.
(2) Check the pullout level indicator. gauge (3) on the side of the pumpset reservoir. See FIGURE
(3) Any unusual heating of the oil should be checked. After a while, oil that is too hot will reduce the
efficiency and cause o-rings and other seals to fall apart.
