4-11.  LCU SOUND-POWERED PHONE SYSTEM. The LCU is provided with three different sound powered
circuits to ensure good, reliable communication during ship operations and special evolutions.
a. Circuit IJV. The 1JV is primarily used during restricted maneuvering to communicate changes
of engine speed, steering orders in the event of a steering casualty, checking gyro and standard compasses,
and orders to line handling and under way replenishment stations.
In addition, the 1JV provides the Engineer a means to communicate orders to the damage control
teams. Consequently, the repair parties report damage flooding, fires, status of watertight integrity and
personnel casualties.

b. Circuit 2JV. The 2JV circuit provides a means of communication between the control room and
propulsion plant for the operation of each main propulsion diesel engine.

c.  Circuit JA. The JA circuit is used by the Captain to coordinate various battle stations and beaching
operations.
