TB 55-1900-201-45/1
(2) The period of time involved before the next scheduled inspection of the area in question. A progressing
condition which may be acceptable in one area would not be acceptable in another without repair.
(3) Whether the repair work contemplated is necessary to restore seaworthiness or is a maintenance meas-
ure to insure prolonged utilization of the vessel.
(4) Once a decision has been reached by the surveyor that repair is necessary, the specific requirement de-
tailing the nature and extent of work and the estimated cost shall be put in writing. The marine condition survey will list
the deficiencies that require corrective action and an estimated cost to repair. The deficiencies and corrective action will
be typed on the "Equipment Inspection and Maintenance Worksheet," DA Form 2404, Reference Fig. 3-1. The estimated
cost to repair will be typed on Part 1 of the DA Form "Marine Survey Analysis and Drydock Repair," Fig. 3-2. The dry-
dock inspection cleaning, painting, and repairs for keel to top of boottop line, will be reported and submitted on "Report of
Drydocking, Painting, and Condition of Vessel Bottom," AMC Form 1386, Reference Fig. 3-3..
(5) The general rule is to "renew as original", i.e., to replace the defective structure so as to restore its origi-
nal design and condition. However, in cases where the necessity for repair apparently stems from an unsatisfactory
structural feature, this feature should be corrected in making the repairs.
