(1) Tubular heat exchangers.
(2) Pressure vessels used in refrigeration service.
(3) Hydraulic Accumulators.
(4) Fuel Oil Accumulators.
(5) Pressure vessels which have been satisfactorily examined internally by a marine surveyor and in which
no defects have been found which impair the safety of the pressure vessel.
2-53. Piping Systems. A piping installation should be inspected to the extent necessary to assure compliance with
the vessel drawings and material requirements. The inspection shall be made for cracks, pitting, corrosion, scale, broken
and thin pieces in the piping, including the welded joints, screwed fittings, expansion joints, water-tight bulkhead fittings.

Drydock Examination.
a. The examination of a vessel while it is out of the water and when all normally submerged parts are visible is
a vital part of the vessel survey. In order to satisfy the minimum requirements for vessels in active use, a drydock ex-
amination will be conducted as prescribed by AR 750-1-A Drydock Examination. The time interval starts when the vessel
is undocked (refloated). The drydock interval does not apply to vessels in administrative dry storage (Ref AR 705-1).
The drydock intervals for vessels in wet storage are specified in TB 740-93-4.
b. When drydocking is required for purposes other than scheduled bottom cleaning and painting (such as a ma-
rine casualty) cleaning and painting of the underwater hull or cleaning and touch up painting will be accomplished as
required. If more than 75 percent of the scheduled cyclic drydocking interval has elapsed, an overhaul of the vessel's
bottom and appendages below the deep loadline will be accomplished.
c. All vessels in drydock shall be cleaned, all fittings to the sea shall be opened to the extent necessary for the
surveyor to determine the internal and external condition. The fastenings to shell plating shall be inspected and replaced
as necessary.
d. The propeller(s) shall be inspected for dimension, pitch and contour, excessive run out and broken or
cracked blades.
e. When the tail shaft is drawn for examination, its condition shall be determined by the surveyor. Special at-
tention shall be given to detection of fractures in way of the key way, shaft wear and shaft run out.
