2-93.
Davits and Winches. During the inspection, the following shall be examined on all davits and winches.
a. Structural and operation members for distortion, cracks or corrosion.
b. Welds for cracks or corrosion.
c.
Bolts for looseness or corrosion.
d. Sheaves for excessive wear and freedom on their pins.
e. Bearing and bushings not operating properly.
f.
Brake and clutch linings and corresponding metallic friction surfaces.
g. All operating parts for excessive wear.
h. Wire rope for condition.
i.
Control mechanism.
j.
Lubrication.
k.
Limit switches for good contact and freedom from moisture.
2-94. Insulation of dissimilar metals. When inspecting mechanical davits, it should be observed that the trunnion
pin, where fitted, and the grease fittings are free from rust, paint or foreign matter. the welds shall be hammer tested if
deemed necessary.
Condensation on the inside of the hollow sections of the arm on gravity davits may cause deterioration in the
metal. Suspected areas should be hammer tested. Also, the condition of the safety screen on the underside of the davit
trackways should be examined. The surveyor shall insure that the stopper or locking bar on the trackway does not inter-
fere with the raising of the davit arms, and that the davit arm rollers are free and not frozen.
SECTION XVI. Electronic Equipment
2-95. Electronic Equipment. Only a visual examination can be made to marine electronic equipment. Inspect for
physical damage and missing components. It will be necessary to contact the master of the vessel for information on
operating condition and repairs required.

Oil Burning Range. Inspect stove casing, foundation and brickwork.
