INSPECTION
Use eye protection when using compressed air.
3. Exhaust
Clean the spring with fuel oil and dry it with com-
valve
pressed air. Then, inspect the spring for pitted or
spring
fractured coils. Use spring tester and an accurate
(4)
torque wrench to check the spring load.
The exhaust valve spring has an outside diameter of
approximately 61/64 inch (2.4209 cm). Replace this
spring when a load of less than 25 pounds (11.35 kg)
will compress it to 1.80 inch (4.57 cm) (installed
length).
Inspect the valve spring seats and caps for wear. If
worn, replace.
