If the converter is being disassembled for reasons other than seal repair, and it is intended to

reassemble the converter using the same seal assemblies and carbon mating rings, extreme

care must be taken to keep the sealing surfaces of the steel nose piece and carbon mating

ring free from all dirt and scratches.
