SHAFT LOCK - MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS.
a. A portable shaft locking device is provided for each of the propulsion shafts. Either shaft may be
secured when vessel is under way on one propulsion unit. Shafts may be secured while being towed at a speed
of 11 knots.
b. The locking plate is stowed in an inverted position on the pro ulsion unit foundation below the shaft
p
coupling.
c. If the propeller shafts are allowed to turn while being towed, or when operating on one propulsion unit,
the reduction gear standby lubricating oil pumpsMUST be put into operation.
