TEST BATTERIES.

INITIAL SETUP

Test Equipment.

Equipment Conditions:

Tester, Battery GG-T-258 (Hydrometer)

References

Engine shut down.

TM 9-6140-200-14 (see Appendix A)

General Safety Instructions:

Disconnect all leads from battery

Terminals before testing.

TEST

REMOVE LEADS FROM BATTERY TERMINALS.

With engine shut down, remove battery box

cover.

First disconnect negative battery lead (1) from

negative terminal of battery (2).

Then

disconnect positive battery lead (3)

from

positive terminal of battery (2).

TEST BATTERY.

Remove cell cover (4).

Test the specific gravity of each cell with a

hydrometer, and compare reading to chart in

TM 9-6140-200- 14. If the specific gravity

reading is below 1225 on the hydrometer,

charge the battery. Specific gravity readings of

1.260-to-1270 on the hydrometer indicate a

fully charged battery.

Install cell cover (4).
