FOAM PROPORTIONERS (AFFF) PIPING SYSTEM
AFFF system is energized but only water is discharged.
235.
STEP 1. Check for inoperative butterfly valve.
Repair or replace butterfly valve (para. 2-369).
STEP 2. Check for depleted AFFF concentrate supply.
Replenish AFFF concentrate supply.
STEP 3. Inadequate firemain pressure.
Refer to BILGE/BALLAST AND FIREMAIN SYSTEM troubleshooting.
STEP 4. Check for plugged, bent, or crimped AFFF concentrate line.
Repair faulty line (para. 2-369).
STEP 5. Check for closed firemain supply to AFFF gate valve.
Open gate valve.
STEP 6. Check for plugged or damaged firemain.
Flush firemain.
STEP 7. Check for inoperative butterfly valve.
Repair or replace butterfly valve (para. 2-369).
No supply of AFFF concentrate.

STEP 1. Check for empty concentrate tank.
Replenish AFFF supply.
STEP 2. Check for closed concentrate supply line gate valve.
Open gate valve.
FIRE PUMP PIPING SYSTEM
Low discharge pressure.

Check for marine growth or other foreign matter buildup on sea chest
STEP 1.

Back flush sea chest using ship's compressed air system.
STEP 2. Check for closed suction valves.
Ensure suction valves are fully open.
