a. Remove 12 bolts (1) and nuts (2) securing main reduction gear to the mounting base.
b. Attach a lifting sling to the gearbox.
WARNING
Make sure no part of the gearbox or lifting device comes in contact with overhead
power cables. Contact with the power cables could cause personal injury or death.

Lift gearbox from deck and move out of position.
REPAIR
Repair of the main reduction gear consists of repair actions on the control valve, torsional coupling, and external
input/intermediate shaft, discussed in detailed paragraphs to follow.
REPLACEMENT
WARNING
The gearbox and its components are extremely heavy. To avoid injury or death,
make sure that suitable lifting equipment and qualified riggers are used during
removal and replacement.
WARNING
Make sure a minimum of three soldiers are assigned to assist in removal and
replacement of the gearbox.
WARNING
Make sure no part of the gearbox of lifting device comes in contact with overhead
power cables. Contact with the power cables could cause personnel injury or
equipment damage.
