NOTE
Vaporizing liquid type fire extinguishers, containing carbon tetrachloride or
chlorabromomethene or other toxic vaporizing liquids are not authorized and
shall be removed from the vessel.
2-74.  Carbon Dioxide System, Fixed or Portable. In addition to deter- mining that the system is installed in accor-
dance with the approved vessel drawings, the following inspections are suggested. Normally these inspections are con-
ducted at least once every 12 months.
a. Weigh Cylinders. Recharge if weight loss exceeds 10% of the charge.
b. Predischarge alarm shall be examined and test operated if necessary.
c.  If deemed necessary, a pressure test of the fixed carbon dioxide piping system may be applied using only
carbon dioxide or other inert gas for the test.
(1) The piping from the cylinder to the stop valves in the manifold should be subjected to a pressure of 1,000
PSI with no additional gas being introduced to the system. It should be demonstrated that the leakage of the system will
not permit a pressure drop of more than 150 PSI per minute for a 2 minute period.
(2) The individual branch lines should be pressure tested at 600 PSI. For the purpose of this test, the
branch piping should be capped within the space protected at the first joint ahead of the nozzles.
(3) In lieu of the test prescribed in subparagraphs (1) and (2) of this paragraph, small independent systems
protecting spaces such as emergency generator rooms, lamp lockers, small engine rooms may be tested by blowing out
the piping with air at a pressure of at least 100 PSI.
d. Remote controls for release of carbon dioxide equipment shall be operated. Excessive pull (over approxi-
mately 40 pounds) or movement (over approximately 14 inches) should not be permitted.
e. Switches for automatic shut down of ventilation shall be operated.
f.
It shall be verified that all openings into the space are capable of being secured.
g. Operating levers, selector valves, etc., will be properly identified. Operating Instructions shall be in place
and legible.
