broken ends and at least 12 feet of good rope (or three links in the case of chain) on each side of the break.
Save end fittings as appropriate. Serve the broken ends to prevent unlaying of fiber line or oil them to prevent
corrosion of wire rope Log and describe details of the break . Save fragments and pieces for analysis.
When synthetic fiber line fails, it is important that an adequate length be saved. If the break occurs in the
vicinity of an end fitting, the end fitting also should be sent for test and evaluation, with the broken end wrapped
in plastic.
