(2) Each marine gear consists of a flywheel and forward drive clutch assembly, and a reverse drive clutch
assembly with a through drive shaft. Also each has an oil pump to supply oil under pressure for operating the forward and
reverse clutches, a control valve to admit oil to the clutches, an oil strainer, a full-flow oil filter, and an oil cooler.
(3) Power from the engine is transmitted to the through drive shaft by locking the forward or reverse clutch
plate between the hydraulically operated piston and drive plate.
b. Removal.
(1) Refer to paragraph 3-23 and remove the power transfer gear assembly.
(2)  With the engines still supported, remove the bolts and lock washers securing the reverse gear
housings to the engine flywheel housing.
