MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
3.
Relief valve discharges continuously.
Temperature and pressure relief valves are made to operate if the water temperature
exceeds 210F (99C) or water pressure exceeds 125 lbs (861.85 kPa).
Check for excessive temperature or pressure and correct condition. If
trouble is excessive temperature, then thermostat is not shutting off at
the right setting.
Replace.
4.
Monitoring thermostat.
Step 1.
Let water heater completely heat to a designated thermostat setting.
After thermostat satisfies, draw water from heater.
Step 2.
Compare water temperatures of drawn water to the temperature setting of the
thermostat when it satisfies (that is, when the thermostat actually clicks off).
If these two readings do not coincide within acceptable tolerances and
verification has been made of the accuracy of the temperature reading
gauge, re-calibrate the thermostat.
5. Magnetic contactor.
If magnetic contactor will not energize, and support components are functioning properly
(thermostat opens and closes manually, hi limit is open).
Replace complete magnetic contactor.
