Crankshaft End
This check is made by attaching a dial indicator (1, FIG. 2-7) to rest against the vibration
damper while prying against the front cover (2) and back side of the vibration damper hub.
End clearance must be as stated below with engine mounted in the craft and assembled to
marine gear.
Crankshaft end clearance (new) minimum:
0.005 in (0.13 mm)
Crankshaft end clearance (new) maximum:
0.015 in (0.38 mm)
Crankshaft end clearance (operating) worn limit:
0.020 in (0.51 mm)
If measurement does not meet these criteria, notify your supervisor. New thrust rings are
required to be installed by intermediate direct support maintenance.
