MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Pumpset is noisy.
STEP 1.
Check for air in the system.
a.
Make sure oil levels are correct (para. 2-10).
b.
Make sure air is bled from the system (para. 2-10).
c.
Remove any kinks found in the system piping.
STEP 2. Check for stopped up suction strainer.
Drain tank, remove and clean suction strainer (para. 2-10).
2. Upon energizing the main directional control valve, the steering gear operates slower than normal and
cannot develop system pressure.
STEP 1. Check for contamination or faulty solenoid coil in directional control valve.
Replace solenoid coil (para. 2-20).
3. Steering gear will not respond to command at main directional control valve.
STEP 1. Check for faulty solenoid coils in directional control valves.
a. Operate manually.
b. Replace solenoid coils (para. 2-20).
STEP 2.
Check for air in the system.
a.
Make sure all fittings are secure.
b.
Make sure pump suction is connected properly to inlet filter.
c.
Remove all kinks found in system piping.
d.
Bleed system (para. 2-10).
4. Hydraulic fluid overheating.
STEP 1. Check for contamination in inlet filter elements.
Disassemble, clean and replace filter elements (para. 2-21).
