(1) Remove the six bolts and three bolt locks which secure the bearing retainer to the idler gear.
(2) Place the idler gear and bearing assembly in an arbor press with the bearing cone or inner race supported on
steel blocks as shown in figure 3-60. While rotating the gear assembly, press the hub out of the bearing. Remove the
gear assembly from the arbor press and remove the bearing cones and spacer. (fig. 3-61).

NOTE
Component parts of the idler gear bearing are mated; therefore, match-mark the parts
during disassembly to assure they will be reassembled in their original positions.
(3) Tap the bearing cup (outer race) from the idler gear by using a brass drift alternately at four notches provided
around the shoulder of the gear.
