MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Starter turns but engine does not:
Step 1.
Check for pinion not engaging in flywheel
ring gear.
Replace as per paragraph 3-101.
Refer to Direct Support Maintenance.
Step 2.
Check for pinion clutch slipping (cold weather or
heavy lubricant).
Wash out the heavy lubricating oil and
replace it with SAE 5W or SAE 1OW oil.
Step 3.
Check overrunning - clutch burned out.
Replace as per paragraph 3-101.
Refer to Direct Support Maintenance.
