Step 3. a.

Check for faulty injector timing and the position of the injector racks.

Refer to paragraph 3-161.

Erratic engine operation may also be caused by

leaking injector spray tips. Replace the faulty

injectors. Refer to paragraph 3-147.

Step 4.

Check for low compression pressures within the cylinders.

Consult the Hard Starting table 3-60 if compression

pressures are low.

Step 5.

Check for governor instability (hunting).

Erratic engine operation may be caused by governor

-to-injector operating linkage bind or by

misadjusted engine. Refer to paragraph 3-140.
