CARE AND PREPARATION FOR STORAGE/SHIPMENT
5-22. CARE AND PREPARATION FOR STORAGE/SHIPMENT
a. The long-term storage requirements are identical to the short-term (up to 3 months) storage
requirements. The craft is stored and transported in its carrying bag. The craft may also be stored while
inflated. When stored while inflated, any protection from direct sunlight will extend service life and reduce
maintenance. The paint on the thrustboard, transom, and paddles deteriorates more quickly when
exposed to sunlight. Over extended periods of time, the fabric of the craft is also affected by sunlight.
b. Unit personnel prepare the IAB for storage and shipment. The following procedure is for
storage in the deflated and folded condition:
NOTE:
The craft must be clean and dry before folding.
( 1 ) Turn the flywheels on the four interconnecting valves to the 12 o clock position
(indicating arrow points to the orange INFLATION area).
( 2 ) Remove the isolator clamps from the lower buoyancy tube inflation hoses.
( 3 ) Remove the metal valve caps and inserts from the four intercommunicating
valves and the keel valve to deflate the craft.
( 4 ) Remove the Floorboard Assembly.
-Kick both stringers outward from the craft, remove them from the craft.
-Lift floorboard #2 and #3 and remove.
-Remove floorboards #1 and #4.
-Remove element #1 bow board by sliding them under the thrustboard.
-Remove element #2 bow board from the craft.
( 5 ) Reinstall the metal valve inserts and metal valve caps in three of the
intercommunicating valves and hand tighten.
( 6 ) Connect the foot pump hose to the intercommunicating valve without the metal
valve insert. Connect the other end of the foot pump hose to the DEFLATE port
on the foot pump.
