Use caution when working with toluene. Toluene is a flammable and
poisonous solvent. Do not use near sparks or flame. Use outdoors or
provide adequate ventilation. Use in a confined space can cause loss of
consciousness and in extreme concentrations, death. Wipe up all spills
immediately. Remove toluene soaked towels from the work area to reduce
the concentration of toluene in the air and prevent fire. Minimize contact of
toluene with the skin. Never leave toluene soaked towels on boat fabric.
CAUTION
Do not allow neoprene parts such as gaskets and diaphragm to come in
contact with toluene.
NOTE:
Use the partitioned tray to keep all parts of one valve together. Valve parts are
not interchangeable; therefore, the tray and craft must be marked to indicate
which parts are from which valve.
( 6 ) Clean the spring, spring washer, and locknut by immersing in toluene and
scrubbing with the gun bore brush. Do not mix parts from different valves.
CAUTION
Avoid scratching the soft brass surface. Scratches on the mating surfaces
of the male and female portions of the valve will cause valve leaks.
( 7 ) Clean the male valve body of the intercommunicating valve with toluene to
remove all grease and dirt. See figure 5-5. Use a brush only on the inside. The
outside is cleaned by using a towel soaked in toluene.
