TM 5-1940-321-13&P
( 2 ) Using a silver pen, trace a line parallel to the seam and 13/16 inch away along
the entire length of the seam. See figure 7-31. Trace an identical line on the
opposite side of the seam. These lines represent the edges of the 1-5/8 inch
wide bandage that will be centered over the seam. The bandage will be applied
on the entire seam: from inside near the floor up to the lacing cuff and from the
lacing cuff down to the rubbing strake, and from the opposite side of the
rubbing strake down the outside of the buoyancy tube to where the seam is
hidden by the lower buoyancy tube.
( 3 ) Mark the remaining seams to be bandaged as described above.
( 4 ) Using a dremmel tool and an aluminum oxide stone, lightly scuff the entire area
between the marked lines on each seam. Use care to avoid scuffing too deep.
Do not expose the fabric under the coating. Remove all dust. Use a butane
lighter or very small propane torch to burn away any threads unraveling from
the edge of the fabric at the seam. Exercise care to avoid damaging the fabric.
