Begin the glue schedule (table F-1) using toluene and neoprene glue.
Remove all tape. Apply the patch. Bone down firmly.
( 12 ) Wait 12 hours for the glue to develop sufficient bond strength.
( 13 ) Install the plastic CO2 overpressure valve using a flat neoprene gasket
between the valve and the newly installed valve base. Tighten firmly using the
plastic socket wrench. Do not insert a handle in the plastic socket. Tighten by
hand only.
( 14 ) Inflate the craft and test for leaks in the repaired area using the procedure in
k. Remove and Replace the Lower Buoyancy Tube Inflation Hose Barbs. This corrective
maintenance procedure is performed by directs support personnel. The lower buoyancy tube inflation
hose barbs and hoses must be removed and replaced when the threads become damaged or the hoses
leak or other damage exists. The hose fittings, which are made from delrin plastic, are not repairable. The
fittings, which are made from delrin plastic, are not repairable. The fittings must also be replaced to
correct air leaks between the hose fittings and the buoyancy tube fabric that cannot be correct by
gasket. Referring to figure 7-29, remove and replace the lower buoyancy tube hose and fittings using the
following procedure:
( 1 ) Using a 1-1/2 inch open end wrench, unscrew one of the hose barbs. The hose
will twist and kink as the hose barb is unscrewed. Continue turning the hose
barb until it is free.
( 2 ) If necessary for the repair, remove the other hose barb in the same manner.
( 3 ) Remove the hose from one or both hose barbs using a small thin blade
screwdriver. Use care to avoid damaging the hose if it is to be reinstalled.
Insert the blade of the screwdriver under the hose and pry it loose. Use care to
avoid cutting the hose.
NOTE:
The hose barbs and hoses are not supplied individually. A hose repair kit
contains 8 hoses barbs and 4 hoses. Do not use the glue provided with this kit.
( 4 ) Check the neoprene valve base gasket for cracks, cuts or deterioration due to
aging. Replace if necessary.
( 5 ) Verify that the neoprene valve base gasket is in place. Reinstall the hose barbs
hand tight; then tighten moderately using the 1-1/2-inch open end wrench.
