c.
Secure Intercommunicating Valves and Inflation Equipment.
( 1 ) Secure the four intercommunicating valve covers by snapping them closed.
( 2 ) Removed the inflation pump hose and accordion-fold the pump, securing it with
its plastic-retaining clamp.
( 3 ) Coil the inflation hose and interlock its end into the fold of the pump so that the
hose will not loosen and uncoil.
( 4 ) Return the air pressure gauge to its stowage location in the repair kit.
2-4. TIGHTENING OF VALVE BASE NUTS. On a new craft, it is necessary to tighten all the valve
base nuts to compensate for any compression of the new fabric, which may have occurred since the craft
was built. Do not apply excessive force. To prevent air leakage, the valve base nuts need only be
tightened until they are snug; usually only 1/8 turn or less is required. Do not over-tighten. Excessive
force will cause the valve base on the inside of the tube to turn. With the craft inflated, tighten the
following valve base nuts (refer to Figure 2-2 for location of valves). This operation must be performed
with the boat inflated. Do not tighten any valve base on a deflated boat.
a. Intercommunication Valve Base Nuts. Gently tighten the four intercommunicating valve
base nuts using the half-moon spanner as shown in Figure 2-5. Do not over-tighten.
