TM 5-1940-321-13&P
INSPECTION FOR AIR LEAKS. Conduct an inspection for obvious air leakage in the main and
lower buoyancy tubes and inflatable keel. Air leakage could occur at the valves, tube seams, or through
pinholes or cuts. Check that the indicating arrow on the four inter-communicating valve flywheels is
pointed exactly to the 6 o clock position in the green area, marked NAVIGATION.
NOTE
Changes in ambient temperature can result in changes in air pressure in the
buoyancy tubes. Placing the boat in the water will cool the air in the buoyancy
tubes, which reduces inflation pressure. This reduced pressure can be incorrectly
diagnosed as an air leak.
PADDLES, PUMP, REPAIR KIT STOWAGE. The paddles are stowed four on each side of the
craft in alternate direction. See Figure 2-10. Loosen the paddle sheaths and place the paddle ends into
the pockets. Stow the next paddle in the opposite direction. Place the foot pump, repair kit with supplies,
air pressure gauge, and towing and lifting slings, if required, in the craft s bow stowage pouch.
