3-8. THRUSTBOARD. The thrustboard is made from ash; a durable, long grained hardwood. A black
polyurethane enamel finish is used for protection from the marine environment. The thrustboard is installed
over the inflatable keel just at the fold of the bow section of the craft. Its function is to provide improved stability
and forward rigidity for safe performance and handling. The thrustboard distributes loads imposed by the
outboard engine or by paddling and provides increased rigidity at the bow, which decreases the resistance of
the hull moving through the water. The thrustboard also prevents buckling in the main buoyancy tubes, keel,
and lower buoyancy tubes that could result in handling problems. The thrustboard allows a pressure fit of the
rigid flooring system when it is installed. The two forward lifting points are installed on the upper side of the
thrustboard.
CARRYING BAG (Figure 3-16). The carrying bag is made from strongan waterproof fabric for strength
and durability and features 6 carry handles. It is designed to simplify re-bagging the craft for carrying or
storage. For shipping, use the original boat crate.
3-10. COLLAPSIBLE FUEL TANKS. The collapsible fuel tanks, also referred to as fuel bladders, are
available in two capacities: 6 and 18 gallons. The collapsing bladder design allows storage in limited space
when empty. The fuel tanks are made from highly fuel-resistant fabrics and coatings. The tank interiors are
coated with Tedlar for resistance to petroleum based fuels, and plastomer is used on the exterior surfaces for
durability and protection against handling and environmental damage and chafing. The F530 IAB is supplied
with one 6-gallon fuel bladder.
