3-4. TRANSOM (Figure 3-11). The transom is a major component of the IAB and performs several functions.
The transom serves as a mount for the outboard engine and also provides attachment points for self-bailing,
lifting, and flooring systems. The transom is made from 40-mm thick, tongue & groove ash construction,
sandwiched by 2 grade marine plywood plaques and is protected by a black polyurethane varnish finish. The
transom includes the following functional items: two 3" aft lifting points, two self-bailers, two anti-splash
triangles and dual engine aluminum engine mounting plate.
