CAUTION
Do not hoist or lift the craft using towing rings. Use lifting points provided.
j. Forward and Aft Towing Rings. A two + two towing system allows the craft to be towed, or to tow
another craft. The towing system consists of heavy duty D-rings sewn into butterfly-shaped base patches for
reinforcement and maximum load distribution. This feature is essential for protection against shearing and
tearing loads that are induced during towing operations. These towing line attachment points on the forward
and aft sides of the main buoyancy tubes were designed to provide adequate load distribution and optimum
towing line lead angles.
k. CO2 Inlet Valves. The two CO2 inlet valves are located aft on the inboard side of each main
buoyancy tube. Their purpose is to receive the high-pressure hoses provided with th automatic CO2 inflation
system. The CO2 inlet valves allow the use of two CO2 cylinders to rapidly inflate the main and lower buoyancy
tube air chambers The valve is designed to diffuse CO2 into a fabric blast shield, so as to protect the main
buoyancy tube fabric from the -90ᵒ C CO2.
l. CO2 overpressure Valves. The CO2 overpressure valves are located on the inboard surface of
the main buoyancy tubes. They can be identified by their circular mesh faces as shown in Figure 2-9. The CO2
overpressure valves are designed to release excess pressure when the automatic CO2 inflation system is
used. They will also function to release excess air pressure if the craft is overinflated with the foot pump. Five
red plastic caps, provided on the boat, may be snapped over the CO2 overpressure valves in an emergency,
should one begin to leak. Two extra caps are found in the repair kit. The caps should be placed on the
overpressure valves for normal navigation.
