GENERAL WELDING MAINTENANCE - Continued
IBC Welding
CAUTION
Do not weld IBC while on trailer or vehicle. Failure to comply may result in damage to
equipment.
Welding on the IBC must be performed off the PLS trailer or CBT. Different areas of the IBC require different weld
electrodes. Use the following guidelines to determine the correct weld.
1.
BAIL BAR. Two different welding methods can be used to repair the bail bar.
NOTE
Use minimum preheat and maintain the interpass temperature of 300 degrees F (149
degrees C).
a.
ER110S-1 Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). This method requires the use of a wire feed welder with
argon and oxygen shielding gas and ER110S-1 welding wire.
b.
E11018-M Submerged Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). This process utilizes a E11018-M stick electrode
and an arc welder.
2.
IBC LOCKING TABS. Repairing welds on this locking tab requires the use of an arc welder and an ER308
stainless steel stick electrode.
3.
REMAINING IBC WELDS. Welding wire ER80S-D2 is used to repair welds on the majority of the IBC with the
exception of the bail bar. Welding with ER80S-D2 weld wire requires a wire feed welder and carbon dioxide
shielding gas.
