CAUTION
Do not strike the valve extractor tool with a metal hammer. If a rubber
mallet is not available, use a block of wood between the hammer and the
valve extractor tool.
( 4 ) (Figure 7-11). Using a soft rubber mallet, or a metal hammer and a block of
wood, tap the valve extractor tool in an inward direction 4 or 5 times. Do not
use excessive force. Tap the valve extractor from each side 4 or 5 times.

( 5 ) Try to remove the valve male portion by turning and pulling outward on the
valve extractor tool handle.
( 6 ) If the valve is still stuck, then repeat steps ( 2 ) through ( 4 ). If the valve is free,
proceed to step ( 7 ).
( 7 ) Remove the valve male portion and proceed to clean, inspect, and lubricate the
valve as described in chapter 5, paragraph 5-13. If the valve mating surfaces
are scratched, the valve must be reground as described in paragraph 7-18b.
