Remove and Replace the Keel Valve Inner Gasket. This corrective maintenance procedure
is performed by direct support personnel. The keel valve large neoprene valve base gasket provides an
air seal between the keel valve and the keel fabric. These large neoprene valve base gaskets must be
removed and replaced to correct air leaks around the keel fabric that cannot be corrected by tightening
the valve base nut (chapter 2, paragraph 2-4b). Referring to figure 7-17, remove and replace the large
neoprene valve base gasket using the following procedure:
( 1 ) With the keel inflated, loosen but do not remove the keel valve base nut using a
collar nut spanner as shown in figure 7-18.
( 2 ) Remove the metal valve insert to deflate the keel.
