h. Remove and Replace CO2 Inlet Valve Inner Gasket. This corrective maintenance
procedure s performed by direct support personnel. The CO2 inlet valve large neoprene valve base
gasket provides an air seal between the valve and the fabric. This gasket must be removed and replaced
to correct air leaks between the valve and the buoyancy tube fabric that cannot be corrected by tightening
the valve base nut (chapter 2, paragraph 2-4c). Referring to figure 7-21, remove and replace the large
neoprene valve base gasket using the following procedure:
( 1 ) With the buoyancy tube inflated, loosen the CO2 inlet valve base nut using the
collar nut spanner as shown in figure 7-21. Do not completely remove the valve
base nut at this time.
Figure 7-21. Loosening the CO2 Inlet Valve Base Nut.
( 2 ) Deflate the craft by removing the metal valve inserts from the four
intercommunicating valves.
( 3 ) Removing the CO2 hose coupling using an adjustable wrench.
( 4 ) With one hand, feel through the fabric and grasp the base of the CO2 inlet valve.
With the other hand, remove the valve base nut using the collar nut spanner.
( 5 ) Allow the valve to move slightly down into the buoyancy tube until the large
neoprene valve base gasket is visible. Do not drop the valve base into the
buoyancy tube.
